The Mandurah–based WA Football League club is the newest in the competition –
having joined the league in 1997 and is the last in the competition to have a
player development officer.
New Peel recruit Brendon Jones has been signed to fill the role and started on
Monday. The position helped lure the former Perth midfielder to the club.
In the new role the 23-year-old will oversee the Peel District's development
program from the 14’s squad to the colts – helping to nurture the young talent.
This includes identifying talent, which the 2008 Perth best and fairest Butcher
medallist is more than capable of according to coaching and talent manager Peter
Brear. Rather than just focusing on football skills Jones will also help with
life skills including time management, health and wellbeing and sports science.
Jones made his League debut for Perth in 2004 and has since totalled 101 senior
games – his 100th was against Peel in round 22 this year. He has finished inside
the top five in the Sandover Medal count for the past two years.
Last season he averaged 26 possessions a game and has built a reputation as one
of the hardest working on-ballers in the WAFL.
