Peel Thunder had its first loss over the weekend, going down by 43 points to South Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

The Thunder started strong with the team young gun, Calvin Thorne, kicking the first goal in the first 10 minutes of the match.

South Fremantle quickly responded with 3 goals to Peel’s 2 heading into the first break.

It was a tight contest early in the second, with both teams applying pressure around the ball before South Fremantle kicked 2 goals extending the margin to 11 points heading into the main break.

The work of Defender Sam Collins kept the bulldogs from scoring, but South Fremantle proved too good for the Thunder, running away with the game mid-way through the third, leaving the Thunder goaless heading into the final term.

It just wasn’t the Thunders day as South Fremantle continued their impressive performance and sealing the win with the final score 12.14 (86) to 5.3 (43).

Despite the loss, Fremantle’s Matthew Tabener was among the best for Peel with 18 disposals and a goal.

Fellow teammate Hayden Crozier was also a standout in Saturday’s game, racking up a solid 15 disposals and a goal.

Fremantle Dockers new recruit Griffin Logue, says the Thunder knew they were going to be in for a tough game against the bulldogs

“South’s, they really came out with a bang after their loss,” he said.

Logue also highlighted the stand out performance of fellow Docker Sam Collins.

“He was a stand out for sure down back, he’s definitely a big ruck for us, really solid,” he said.

Teammates who also stood out were Brayden Lawler who racked up 21 disposals and a goal and Blair Bell who also collected 15 disposals and a goal.

Peel’s Brayden Lawler says the team’s main focus will be on better ball movement and to get back to the level of football that they played in the first 2 rounds.

“We just need to get back to the footy we have been playing the last two weeks and also when our pressure is right up there we cause a lot more turnovers…” he said.

After the tough loss, the Thunder will be ready to fire when they face Subiaco at Leederville oval next Saturday.
