ROUND 18 - COLTS REVIEW WITH JOHN DEITZ

Tuesday, July 25, 2017 - 3:27 PM

The Peel Colts moved back into second position on the WAFL colts ladder on Saturday with a 36 point win over Subiaco.

In slippery conditions early both sides were evenly matched kicking 2 goals a piece in the first quarter. A late Subiaco goal in the second quarter saw the Lions take a 6 point lead into the main break 5-5 35 to Peels 4-5 29.

The second half, as generally is always the case in colts footy, saw the conditions improve. It became a lot more conducive to running and carrying, and allowed for better ball handling which allowed the Peel boys to play to their strengths. The midfield dominated the 3rd term which saw the Thunder kick 7 goals to Subiacos 2 to take a 25 point lead into the final change.

An early goal to Subiaco sent a few scares through the group, but the Thunder kicked the final 3 goals of the game to finish up with a comfortable margin of victory.

Better players were Jackson Perry who was outstanding in his return from a 4 week lay off through injury and being away, Michael Randall again who continues to compete and win the ball in the midfield, Billy Chambers in the ruck who gave the mids first use, was a good target around the ground, and kicked a goal that evoked memories of Justin Madden at Waverley Park against Adelaide in 1993, Tyson Powell who started back then went forward after half time, and Jarrad Fazioli who was busy in the forward line with 3 goals and plenty of energy.

Goal kickers were- Fazioli 3, Randall, Havelberg and Cohen  2 each, with singles to Powell, Anderson, Moody, Chapman and Chambers.

The colts have another big game this Saturday against 4th placed Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval. The last 2 clashes between the sides have resulted in a draw so expect another tight game!
