Round 6 - Q & A with Coach Daniel Haines

Tuesday, May 8, 2018 - 11:32 AM

How did you see the start from the team in the first quarter?

Our first 15 minutes was very good with great pressure and skill execution, which helped us get the jump on the ladder leaders.  Brad McGowan and Keegan Power were in good touch.  We managed to get some clean ball into our forwards and went into quarter time 1 point up after a couple of turnovers late in the quarter, which let Claremont in for a couple of easy goals.

What happened in the second quarter?

It seemed our run and carry dried up in the second quarter and the pressure from Claremont when we had the footy made it very hard for our guys to get our ball movement where we wanted it to be.

Our skills dropped off and we had multiple turnovers, which resulted in direct goals to Claremont. We need to find a way to work our way through situations when opposition teams get momentum and how we stop that.

As a team what do we need to work on over the bye week?

The last two weeks we have been pretty average with clean hands and kicking efficiency so we will be working very hard on the track to rectify that.   Fitness is also a component as there has been a few that have missed some training and games due to injury.

Who were the better players on the game?

Keegan Power had his best game for the year and is getting into some really good form over the last 2 games. Alex Bray and Chris Wrigley worked really hard in defense and provided great leadership.  Ollie Walton was terrific around the stoppages.  I'm really excited about his talent and attitude.    Alex Cohen was lively up forward and put on great pressure with tackles and chase downs.  Brett Milward kicked a couple and also showed he can play a role down back if required.

Overall we are pleased with the development and attitude the group that has been displayed.   We are confident the wins will not be far away and we look forward with great anticipation to the game in two weeks against a strong Subiaco side.

Congratulations to the Colts and League teams for the great wins on the weekend.
