Round 6 - With Coach Cam Shepherd

Tuesday, May 8, 2018 - 12:58 PM

Peel Thunder 14.14 (98) defeated Claremont 11.12 (78)

It was a tough and bruising encounter. Both teams came into this game with 1 win and 3 losses so victory was critical. Important to keep touch with the top 5.

We started well with Leroy Jetta really playing well in the first quarter, kicking two goals which could easily have been three. Our midfield was getting their share and our pressure was back to our best. Our lead of 3 goals was good reward for effort.

Unfortunately Claremont really rallied in the second quarter and controlled the ball and ended up 2 points up at half time. We had lost Leroy Jetta to a hamstring strain and were down to 21 men.

The second half saw our midfield regain ascendancy and our forwards got on top and although both sides gave their all we were able to outscore our opponent 8 goals to 5 and end up winners by 20 points.

Better players for Peel included Lawler (11 tackles), Kersten (10 marks),Ugle (2 goals), Strnadica (3 goals), Pearce (33 possessions),Sheridan,Hancock,Tassone,Traye Bennell and Stefan Giro.

It was great to get Harley Bennell back on the park.

Looking forward now to Subiaco in 2 weeks time.
