Rockingham teenager and Peel Thunder Colt, Joshua Schoenfeld was one of just seven players selected to attend this year’s NAB AFL National Combine in Melbourne ahead of the 2015 Draft.

On Sunday, Schoenfeld set a new mark for the 3km time trial, finishing in 9min. 15sec. It was the 18-year-old’s personal best and beat the record of 9.17 set last year by Jack Hiscox, who was then drafted by Sydney.

Schoenfeld also ran 16.2 in the beep test, the second-best mark recorded behind Hawthorn’s Billy Hartung (16.6 in 2013).

“Coming off playing just 5 games in 2014, Josh dedicated himself to achieving his best and in 2015 was rewarded with selection in the State 18s program and his consistent performances throughout the year lead to an invitation to the combine” said Peel Thunder Colts Coach, Beau Wardman.

He added, “It is testament to his preparation and he sought the guidance of our strength and conditioning coach, David Norton, who has assisted with managing his program throughout the year.”

“I knew I could run around that speed and I guess being at the combine and with everyone watching you just push that little bit harder,” Schoenfeld said.

“I was buggered at the end, but it was great to get that time and I’m just stoked that all the work paid off.

“I think I’ve put my best foot forward in the areas I wanted to test well in, so you never know.

Joshua played 15 games in 2015 for Peel Thunder Colts averaging 22 possessions, 5 marks and kicked 6 goals. He was also awarded the KI Group Leadership Award for the Peel Thunder Colts this year.
