SWAN Districts continued its impressive and unbeaten start to the WAFL Colts season with a win over the reigning premier Subiaco on Sunday while Peel Thunder also kept its perfect record intact with wins as well for Perth and West Perth.
Coming off reaching the Grand Final in the Colts last year, Swan Districts has continued that momentum to start the 2019 season.
They made it five consecutive wins when they proved too good for Subiaco on Saturday with Peel Thunder joining them in remaining undefeated but the wins for West Perth and Perth ensured they have made good starts in the Colts for 2019 as well.
Round 1 of the inaugural WAFLW season kicked off on May 5th, with the newly formed Peel Thunder Women’s team taking the field against last year’s reigning Premiers East Fremantle.

It has been a very exciting start to the season for the Rogers Cup team with 14 premiership players from last year being promoted to the WAFLW squad. This has allowed a new generation to come into the Rogers cup squad and our average age is 16 in an 18 and under competition. PT 19.11 defeated EP 7.6
Although the score line reflects a win by 77 points (the biggest victory by a Peel team against EP in our history) and a score of 19.11 (125) which is the highest score by a Peel team against EP in our history it was in fact a Read More [+]
NEW ground was broken on Sunday afternoon with the launch of the very first Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season across two venues and it was the grand finalists from 2018 East Fremantle and Subiaco who proved victorious.
The WAFLW competition has been launched in 2019 as the start of a new era of female football in Western Australia following on from the success of the AFL Women's competition nationally and what the West Australian Women's Football League has been able to lay the foundations for.
This inaugural season in 2019 will feature five teams and the action got underway on Sunday afternoon with the two teams who played off in the league grand final of the WAWFL competition last year, East Fremantle and Subiaco, proving victorious.
Another step forward for our young group. After controlling the contest for the first half and to lose by 9 points was disappointing, the intent and workrate overall was pleasing for the 4 quarters.

The initial intake of players for the 2019 Simply Energy WA State Academy has been announced ahead of the AFL National 16s and 18s Championships in June and July this year.
This first intake includes 36 players in the 16s age group and 40 in the 18s age group. Both squads can be added to from the WAFL Futures and Simply Energy Colts competitions, while Train On players may also be elevated to the main squad.
WA State Talent Manager Adam Jones congratulated all of the players on their selection and said he was looking forward to working with Western Australia’s most talented young players throughout the program.
AN initial Kia WAFL State Squad of 31 players has been named for the 2019 State Game against the South Australian National Football League.
The game will be played at Optus Stadium on Sunday May 12 as a curtain-raiser to the Fremantle v Richmond AFL game.
Peel Thunder defeated East Fremantle by 12-points in a thrilling finish at David Grays Arena on Good Friday.
The lead changed hands five times in the last quarter before Peel secured the win with the final two goals of the game finishing 12.13 (85) to 11.7 (73).
Key forward Gerald Ugle said the Thunder expected a challenge, but the final moments were nerve racking.
