JAKEB SHINE TAKES OUT COLTS DAVID CAMERON MEMORIAL MEDAL - 15 SEPTEMBER 2016

Friday, September 16, 2016 - 12:35 PM by John Deitz

In a great night for the Peel Thunder Colts program, Jakeb Shine has taken out the inaugural David Cameron Memorial Medal for the fairest and best player in the Peel Thunder Colts side for 2016.

In a tight finish, Shine polled 4 votes against Claremont in the last game to finish on 105 votes, with Jack Clarke Medallist Michael Humble polling 10 votes to finish on 99 votes and in second place.

Shine, a 17 year old from the HBL junior club, spent the majority of the season playing across the half back line. Shine at times played on key forwards and did an outstanding role in winning contests and providing rebound from the back half of the ground. Shine averaged 17 possessions and 5 marks a game in his first season at colts level. Jakebs professionalism, commitment to his training and work rate are strong attributes to his game.

Humble was recognised for his outstanding season with 2nd place in a year that has marked his league debut, selection in the Redimed WAFL Team Of The Year, the Jack Clarke Medal and the WAFL Colts Coaches Award. The midfielder was a consistent ball winner in his 15 games, averaging 26 possessions, 9 clearances and 6 tackles a game. Humble was also recognised in winning the Players Player award which was voted across the season after each game by his teammates.

Aaron Naughton finished in 3rd place after an outstanding season playing in a key defensive post. Still 16 years old, Naughton represented Western Australia in the National Under 18s Championships, was named at full back in the WAFL Colts Team of the Year and has also been selected to play in the AFL Futures game as the curtain raiser to the AFL Grand Final at the MCG. Naughton averaged 6 marks and 14 possessions a game.

Other award winners on the night were Brandon Penny who took out the Colts Leadership award, whilst Jordan Boullineau was awarded the WAFL Combined Past Players Encouragement Award.

Congratulations to all players, partners and parents who presented themselves fantastically on the evening, and had an extremely fun night to wrap up the colts season.
