ROUND 10 - LEAGUE 'CONVINCING 90 POINT WIN OVER PERTH DEMONS'
Rainy conditions didn’t stop Peel Thunder from continuing their winning streak with the side sealing a convincing 90 point win over the Perth Demons at Lathlain Park.
The Thunder were far too strong for the Demons containing the home side to just one goal in the final quarter, ending the game 18.15(123) to 5.3(33).
Leroy Jetta was in top form scoring 3 goals and 3 behinds for the side from just 9 possessions, alongside Josh Deluca with 3 goals and 1 behind with a high 22 disposal.
Sean Darcy, Hayden Ballantyne, Corey Morris and Jonathon Griffin each kicked 2 goals contributing to Peel’s victory.
It wasn’t just the forwards who sealed the win, with the Thunder’s defence keeping a tight rein on Perth, which showed on the scoreboard, with Brennan Cox taking a high 18 marks. Well supported by Sam Collins, Luke Ryan, Alex Bray and Ryan Nyhuis.
Key forward Leroy Jetta said “the impact the back line has on the team is crucial. They were great today. Coxy and Collins took a big toll down there. I think Coxy took 18 marks so those two, down there have been awesome for us all year.”
Peel started the game strong with a goal in the first 2 minutes from Josh Deluca but each goal the Thunder kicked was matched by one from the Demons.
But this didn’t last long with the Thunder kicking 3 unanswered goals to end the quarter.
The pace slowed down slightly at the end of the first quarter with it becoming a game of kick to kick before the siren sounded.
Jetta said “The margin could have been a lot bigger considering the 18 behinds scored by the Thunder”.
“Yeah, accuracy is definitely something we still need to work on.”
“It was a bit wet and dewy today so that comes into consideration a bit but it’s still something we can definitely work on.”
The second quarter saw the 13-point lead extended to 42 points at the half time break with the Demons only kicking one late goal for the term in the 20th minute.
Costly turn overs in the forward 50 saw Peel Thunder lose valuable shots at goal but this did not stop the side from taking control of the third quarter, booting 6 goals against the Demons’ 1 goal.
As the rain picked up so did the intensity of the game as the Thunder refused to drop in the final quarter.
The Demons struggled to get the ball into their forward 50 for the majority of the second half, going down to their biggest loss of the season.
Goals from Corey Morris, Josh Deluca and Blair Bell in the final term saw the Peel Thunder secure their 5th win of the season.
Jetta praised Morris’ standout performance for the side.
“Corey has been good for the last 3 or 4 weeks and he does his job every week and I think he kept Jones to 20 touches this week,” he said.
“Jones had I think 30 odd last week so to keep him to 20 today is a great effort by Corey.”
The Thunder will play Subiaco on the 3rd of June at Bendigo Bank Stadium after the general bye. This round is supported by Peel Thunder FC Partners Country Wide Insurance Brokers.
