ROUND 14 - LEAGUE BACK UP WITH ANOTHER WIN AFTER BYE
Peel Thunder have won their second game in a row with a 36-point victory over East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday.
After kicking five unanswered goals in the final term the Thunder finished 9.12 (66) to 3.12 (30) in a low scoring game, with both teams only kicking a total of twelve goals between them.
Peel Thunder’s Alexander Bray said “Both teams consistently applied defensive and attacking pressure throughout all four quarters. The pressure from both teams was pretty high, which probably caused a lot of skill errors,” he said.
The Thunder started strongly in the first term, with Zac Dawson kicking a major within the first two minutes of the game.
However, inaccuracy in front of goal caused problems for the Thunder, as they were only able to score 2.5 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the visitors extended their lead, leading at half time by 17-points.
In the third quarter, the Thunder were held goalless by the home team, with East Fremantle kicking the only goal in the quarter.
With just a 7-point lead at three quarter time, Alexander Bray said “The Coach’s message was to keep on fighting. He said not to give in and just try our hardest and eventually we cracked them and got over the line.”
The final term saw Peel blow out their lead to finish with a comfortable 36-point victory over the home side.
Rory O’Brien was an important factor in the team’s win, finishing with 23 disposals and three goals.
“Rory O’Brien through the midfield played strong all day and tackled hard,” Bray said.
Ethan Hughes (26 disposals), Matthew Humble (24 disposals and 10 tackles) and Matthew Taberner (17 disposals and two goals) were also instrumental in their side’s victory.
After winning five out of their last six games, Bray said “Peel had high hopes for the rest of the season. We are starting to get to know each other pretty well now, so we are starting to just click a lot better. We’re really moving forward really well, we’re pretty happy around the club, I think we’ll probably go into September again and really give it a good crack.”
Peel Thunder now sit in third position on the league ladder with seven wins.
They face Claremont this week at Bendigo Bank Stadium on July 1 at 2.15pm.
