OCEAN HILL ESTATE - PEEL THUNDER COLTS WRAP UP FROM THE WEEKEND

Monday, March 12, 2018 - 1:26 PM

The Peel Thunder Colts travelled to Claremont Oval to take on the Claremont Tigers in hot conditions last Saturday.

Fielding a squad of 28, with 11 newcomers, the young Tigers got out of the blocks quickly in the 1st, kicking with the breeze. Clifton Stack was proving elusive up forward, kicking 2 and setting up 1 for the quarter, while key forwards Ben Middleton, Zavier Williams and Jack Sears were providing strong targets. The midfield was being lead by the hard working Brad Oldfield, while Jarrad Fazioli was relishing the freedom of playing up the ground.

The Tigers responded in the 2nd term, lifting their work rate and taking full toll on some sloppy defending to kick 5 goals for the quarter. Brad Oldfield continued to work hard, along with Jake Howes and Kyle Penny while Durak Tucker was solid across half back.

The Thunder kicked it up a gear in the 3rd, lead by Michael Randall and Tyrone Thorne, who both kicked 2 goals each for the quarter. Jarvis Pina was providing plenty of rebound off half back while Lee Chapman and Durak Tucker kept the Tiger key forwards under control.

The last quarter went goal for goal, with the Thunder running out comfortable winners. Better performers on the day were Brad Oldfield through the middle, Michael Randall, who kicked 3 and was strong over the ball, Clifton Stack and Tyrone Thorne, who both provided energy and pressure up forward. Down back Durak Tucker, Lee Chapman, Jye Kimpton and Jarvis Pina were all serviceable. Jarrad Fazioli found plenty of ball and provided some dash on his wing.

Overall, it was pleasing to play all our South West players, who all contributed. We also saw solid efforts from our 17 year olds in Ben Middleton, Clifton Stack, Jack Sears, James Ewing, Tyrone Thorne, Kyle Penny, Jaxon Egan, Nic Pemberton and Zach Rankin.

The group got through unscathed and we were able to try players in various positions.
