OCEAN HILL ESTATE PEEL THUNDER 16'S TAKE THE WIN FROM SUBIACO
WITH COACH - AARON BALLANTYNE
The Ocean Hill Estate Peel Thunder 16’s went up against Subiaco in round 2 of the WAFL 16’s carnival on Friday 16th March at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Coming off a really good effort the week prior against Claremont the boys were ready and up for the challenge.
In what was a tale of two halves for the boys, the first 10mins saw us get of to a really good start kicking 2 quick goals and the boys moving the ball well into our forwards, from there Subiaco managed to get a bit of control by folding numbers back at stoppages and we struggled to get the ball out of our back 50. The Second quarter we were reactive and loose around the contest as well as around the ground. Subiaco taking a 2 goal lead into half time, in a half I felt we hadn’t displayed any signs of how we want to play.
After a few adjustments at half time the boys really hit the ground running to start the 3rd, kicking into a slight breeze the boys managed to turn the game around and work the ball forward and lift the pressure that was so good the week prior. Andy Celesto was again having an impact around the contest while Isaiah Winder was starting to have a real influence in our front half which was resulting in not only shots on goal for himself but bring others into the game as well. Michael Hall was finding plenty of the ball off the wing and giving us plenty of drive with his long left foot kicking.
After a really strong quarter we managed to turn for home leading by 2 goals and the boys started the last where they finished off the 3rd with plenty of pressure around the ball, winning the ball on the inside and getting it going forward and running over the top to come away with a comfortable win on the night.
While we have started the carnival 2 and 0 we understand that there is plenty to work on, which the boys are up for. Very pleasing to see that in the first two games the boys have been challenged both on the field by the opposition and off the field by the coaches and have responded extremely well.
Next week we come up against East Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday the 24th of March. Will be a great chance to come and watch the talent coming through with all 4 sides playing on the same day.
