So you're telling me there's a chance? Thunder's finals hopes out of their hands after loss to South Fremantle.

Peel Thunder’s finals hopes are in jeopardy after losing to South Fremantle by 40-points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. 

The Bulldogs kicked the first six goals of the game to run away winners 11.16 (82) to 6.6 (42).

Second game player Jarvis Pina said a lack of pressure in the first half cost the Thunder.

“They were dominating the ball and we just couldn’t get it off them,“ he said.  

Three unanswered South Fremantle goals in the first ten minutes saw Peel on the back foot early with pressure continuing to mount.

South Fremantle’s first quarter dominance was showcased by an incredible 116 to 55 disposal count at quarter time. 

At the first break Thunder coach Cameron Shepherd called for his players to get their hands on the ball and make the Bulldogs defend as much as possible for the rest of the day. 

Peel came out with Shepherd’s call for ball control in mind, taking 23 marks to 17 in the second quarter, however their inability to hit the scoreboard proved costly. 

Youngster Lachlan Cullen kicked Peel’s solitary goal for the half, with the margin out to 47-points at the main break. 

Jarvis Pina said the side were down but not out heading in to the second half.  

“Going in to half time there was a bit of hope still but obviously we couldn’t get the job done,“ he said. 

The third term saw Peel finally begin to get reward for their effort, kicking four goals to three, with Gerald Ugle kicking three of his own for the quarter. 

With a seemingly insurmountable margin of 46-points at three quarter time Thunder coach Cameron Shepherd urged his players to keep competing and win the last quarter. 

That they did, kicking the only goal of the final term and also recording 26 tackles to 16. 

Jarvis Pina said he was proud of the second half effort despite the poor result.

“I thought the way the boys fought back after the half was a credit to us, but obviously we couldn’t get the job done today,“ he said. 

Lachlan Cullen toiled away all afternoon on a tough day for Peel’s forwards, kicking two goals, with he and Gerald Ugle the only multiple goal kickers. 

Captain Ben Howlett also worked hard and put in trademark effort for his 22 disposals and 11 tackles.

With only 2 games back with only 2 games remaining, the Thunder's slim finals hopes rest on East Fremantle knocking off Perth this week and then besting them in a Round 20 clash at David Grays Arena.

Before that they will have to get past Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval next Saturday afternoon.
