Youngsters Relish First Thunder Opportunity
The Peel Thunder Football Club recently welcomed 60 new players into its family. No, this wasn’t a late season trade coup. It was the 2019 Peel Thunder U/14s Development Program.
The U/14s Development Program has seen many different formats over the years but has always stayed a launch pad for the club’s future stars.
Each Peel District junior football club nominated players who they thought currently showed the most promise and commitment as footballers.
This year the program consisted of a 4 week training program focused on fundamental skill development, capped off with an intra-squad practice match where there were many different strengths on show. Those strengths included speed, marking overhead, field kicking and contested possession.
Key messages throughout the program included ‘not being afraid to make mistakes’, ‘focusing on the process, not the result’ and ‘have fun’ (which were exemplified by terrible joke telling by Talent Manager – Shaun Norman at the start of each training session).
Special mention to all of the parents that braved the cold nights to watch the boys train and thank you for supporting your children the way you do. Another special mention to our 4 Co-Coaches in Jamie McGillivray, Thomas Spence, Brendan Cooke and Jack Walsh for the time and energy you put in.
The club hopes all involved with program this year had an enjoyable experience and we hope to see you back at the club soon.
