Around the Grounds | Round 6
It was another frustrating afternoon for the Colts, going down to bottom of the table Swan Districts by 16-points on Saturday.
Swans opened the scoring with a goal through Luke Taylor, before Pierce Ferguson on his Colts debut, kicked 2 amazing goals in as many minutes – one from the boundary and one from just outside 50.
Goals in the second quarter to Riley Vidovich and Luke Taylor of the Peel Thunder variety saw the Thunder jump out to a 14-point lead. Swans not to be denied slowly reeled the Colts back in over the remainder of the quarter and took a slender 1-point lead into half-time.
The third quarter started well for the Thunder, with Luke Taylor kicking his 2nd from a 50m penalty to give Peel back the lead. Unfortunately, Swans proceeded to kick the next 5-goals, as the margin swelled to 22-points deep in the 4th until Roy George managed to kick what turned out to be a consolation goal late on.
Isiah Winder led from the front once again with 28 Disposals, 5 Inside-50’s and 3 Score Involvements, Jack Walsh on his return to the side was industrious, with 22 Disposals, 6 Tackles, 6 Inside 50’s, 3 Rebound 50’s, 5 Score Involvements and a Goal. David Yaccob with a game high 29 disposals and 6 rebound 50’s once again provided good drive from the back half. Bodie Kitchingman was also useful on the wing with 20 disposals, 7 marks and 3 inside 50’s.
Pierce Ferguson and Luke Taylor were the teams only multiple goalkickers, with Jack Walsh, Riley Vidovich, Roy George and Zac Trigwell all adding singles.

The mid-afternoon fixture on Saturday saw our WAFLW side try and get back to winning ways against Swan Districts. Much like the Round 1 match-up between the 2 sides, it was another tight contest that went right to the wire, with the lead alternating at every change.
Swans opened up the scoring before Kira Phillips who held a League leading 10-goals going into the game, added to her total with her first for the afternoon, with Bailey Molloy adding another from a set shot directly in front soon after to have the Thunder going in with the lead at Quarter-Time.
The game began to get away from the Thunder in the second and third quarters as Swans kicked away and looked to have the game on their terms, before a late 3rd quarter flurry saw Courtney Rowley snap one around the body and Kira Phillips kicked a long torpedo through, to give the girls the lead heading into the final term.
Unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be, as Swans with the wind at theirs backs managed a 4.2 final term to the Thunder’s 2.0 to win by 7-points leapfrogging the Thunder on the table and leaving the girls with a must win scenario this weekend against Claremont if they are to play finals football in 2020.
Ella Roberts has been a revelation since being promoted to the senior side and was outstanding again on Saturday. Jade Briggs and Courtney Rowley were both instrumental through the midfield, while Shannon Whale and Lauren Quaife tried their hearts out down back.
The girls front up again this Saturday from Midday in a do or die clash against Claremont at David Grays Arena.

The Rogers Cup Girls were back at Fremantle Oval on Sunday Morning taking on South Fremantle in a top of the table clash. The girls again got off to a rather slow start only registering 2 behinds in the opening term.
The Thunder responded over the next two terms with goals from Nel Baxter, Abby McCorriston and Jaide Britton and actually led it by point heading into the final term.
Unfortunately for the girls they couldn’t quite keep up their intensity in the final stanza, as South Freo put on 2.4 to 0 in the last to win by 15-points, drawing level on points with the Thunder with a round to play.
Peel must now defeat bottom of the table Subiaco this weekend to ensure that they remain on top of the table going into another finals campaign.
