Shepherding the process: Shep Signs on for 2021
The Peel Thunder Football Club is delighted to announce that Senior Coach Cameron Shepherd has signed on for season 2021, in what will be his 9th season at the helm after taking the reins at the start of 2013.
With the club eager to bounce back from a winless shortened 2020 campaign, Shepherd, a two-time Premiership Coach with the Thunder said he was happy to re-sign and continue to build upon the groundwork laid with the young players this year.
“After a challenging 2020 season, I am looking forward to continue to help and teach the younger guys we have coming through reach their potential as players.” Shepherd said.
With former West Coast and Gold Coast player Matt Rosa recently appointed as the new General Manager of Football Operations and with some key player signings on the horizon and a now proven ability to showcase young talent, the Thunder are beginning to form as an attractive destination for both 2021 and into the future.
“Having Matt come here is really exciting as it has provided us with new connections that we are really hopeful will lead to strengthening and improving the squad.”
After a few lean years since the Premiership success of 2017, Shepherd is buoyant that the mix of youth and experience the club is bringing together will be enough to see a much-improved side with a real possibility of a finals footy return.
“We are looking at a number of players that we believe will complement the young players we have coming through and that will add to our competitive spirit, as we aim to make another tilt at making the 5.” Shepherd said.
With there still being a number of unknowns around what next season looks like from a League level, the continuing tenure of Shepherd will at least provide some level of consistency for the players and coaching staff moving into next season.
