WAFL Round 6 | Victorious Against the Demons

Monday, May 10, 2021 - 4:43 PM

We came into the game having to make 7 changes from our team which had played so well against West Coast.

Having to change one third of your team in a week always challenges a group from a point of consistency.

We were proud to be playing two lads in their WAFL debut games in Jackson Knight and Brandon Walker, Peel’s 500th and 501st players to pull on a senior jumper for the club.

Our message was to keep it simple and be strong in the contest. The senior players led the club really well, and our first quarter set the tone with trademark pressure being the highlight. We kicked 8 goals straight in the first quarter which set us up for the win.

Perth to their credit never stopped chipping away at us and put us under real heat in the last quarter getting to within 10 points on a couple of occasions. When we could have folded we didn’t relent and our willingness in the contest saw us through.

We had some really strong contributors in Tyrone Thorne, Ben Hancock, Will Schofield, Brett Bewley and Jackson Merrett to name just a few with everyone having a hand in the win.

The boys will now train this week, with a few given a rest with the state game bye, and then get back and prepare for our next assignment against West Perth on 22nd May.

We were really buoyed with the support in the stands from our die hard supporters and look forward to the next game!

Cheers,

Shep
