Peel Thunder announce Geoff Valentine as new Senior Coach
The Peel Thunder Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoff Valentine as the new Senior Coach of the WAFL men’s program.
Valentine comes to the club with a wealth of coaching and development experience, most recently the Senior Coach of the West Perth Football Club and the 2021 WAFL State Team.
Across his three-years at the West Perth Football Club he successfully led the senior squad to the WAFL Finals Series year on year while also managing a cultural change program and overseeing player development programs.
With over 20-years of experience Valentine has spent a significant amount of time working within the community, including a period of time at Guilford Grammar School in a combination of boarding house roles and as the Director of Football where he led a group of young men to the school’s first Alcock Cup win in 57-years.
Valentine said he’s really looking forward to meeting the playing group and staff as soon as possible and working with both Peel Thunder and the Fremantle Football Club to continue to build the club culture, develop players and community ties in the Peel Region.
“I’m excited to meet the playing group this week and getting to know each of them and then in time meeting their families as we prepare for the 2022 WAFL Season,” Valentine said.
“I believe the people at a club make the biggest difference in your success and both Peel Thunder and the Fremantle Football Club have some great people who I’m excited to work with.
“There are a lot of synergies between the two clubs who are both building strong lists, you can see some incredibly talented kids coming through.
“I’m really passionate about investing in the community which is something I believe this role will allow me to do, especially on the player development side as well as working with the indigenous players coming through,” he added.
Peel Thunder General Manager of Football Operations Matt Rosa is excited to welcome Valentine and his family to the club, adding he is not only an great cultural fit but that his knowledge of the game and experience in developing young men will be hugely beneficial.
“We are really excited to have Geoff on board as our new Senior Coach, he is an amazing cultural fit for our football club and his extensive experience in developing young men will be great for our emerging list,” Rosa said.
“We feel Geoff’s background in education, his ability to build strong relationships with players and staff and a sound knowledge of the game are some of the key strengths he will bring to the role.
On behalf of the board, staff players and members we welcome Geoff, his wife Vinny and three daughters to the Peel Thunder Family and look forward to getting to work on our 2022 campaign,” he added.
