WAFLW ROUND 13 REVIEW

ROGERS CUP

A night game at Mineral Resources Park was our game this weekend. Perth were hungry for their first win and started with the opening two scores before we could get set. Sadly it was their number 35 (that had been identified to the backline before the match as a dangerous player) that was allowed to mark in front of goal and bring up the first major of the game. It was pleasing to see the reset that the team did at that point, to start to dominate the clearances and ensure that the ball spent a lot of time in our forward line. Four unanswered goals by us at that point, had us feeling comfortable going into the first break.

The second and third quarters were quite frustrating, we showed excellent ball movement and transitions from the backline to the mids but often undid all of that good work with an errant forward entry. We need to focus on taking that little bit more care and time to hit our forward leads, which were always there, just not where we put the ball.

In the final quarter, we consolidated the win, which was pleasing, but felt we could have finished on a stronger note.

Fantastic to have Emma Grundy and AJ Rowley back on the field from injury, and wonderful to hear the song ring out over Lathlain. Well done team.
