LEAGUE
Peel Thunders league side made the 450+ km journey to take on 4th placed East Fremantle in Geraldton. The match showcased two in-form teams, with both sides entering the Sunday afternoon clash on three-game winning streaks and vying for third position on the WAFL ladder. Ultimately, it was East Fremantle who emerged victorious, defeating Peel Thunder by 19 points, with a final score of 13.6 (84) to 10.5 (65).
Thunder made a strong start, securing a five-goal advantage in the first quarter with Tom Emmett opened the scoring for Peel. East Fremantle quickly responded with two goals of their own, wrestling dominance back in their favour, a foreshadowing of how the rest of the match would unfold. Peel Thunder managed to head into quarter-time with an 11-point lead, courtesy of goals from Sebit Kuek, Ben Middleton, and Josh Corbett.
The second quarter witnessed a reversal of fortunes as East Fremantle took control. Netting the first three goals of the quarter, swinging the momentum in their favor. Peel Thunder fought back, but East Fremantle maintained a 10-point lead at halftime.
The third quarter remained a closely contested affair, with both teams striving to gain the upper hand. Peel Thunder briefly regained the lead through goals from Middleton and Ethan Stanley, but East Fremantle quickly responded with goals allowing them to secure a lead that they would maintain for the rest of the match.
In the final quarter, East Fremantle extended their advantage with another goal from Ben McGuire, ultimately winning by a margin of 19 points.
Peel Thunder's Brody Wemm impressed in attack, kicking three goals, while Middleton and Corbett added two goals each.
Blair Bell showcased his skills in the midfield, accumulating 24 possessions and eight tackles for Peel Thunder. Clay Hall, back in the league side from his state duties, also made a strong impression with 23 touches, six marks, and three tackles. Jacob Blight again provided solid defensive contributions, matching up against Jonathon Marsh and finishing with 22 possessions and seven marks.
Despite the loss, Peel Thunder had several other notable performers, including Ben Hancock with 20 touches, James Sturrock with 18, and Brady Grey and Haydn Matthews with 17 each.
On top of the loss, in-form Sebit Kuek was taken out of the game early after suffering a torn ACL in the match. A major loss for the Thunder, leading the Clubs League scoring with 25 goals. The club wishes Sebit a speedy and smooth recovery.
RESERVES
Peel and East Fremantle played their Reserves clash at Revo Fitness Stadium and it was the Thunder who beat the Sharks 10.5 (65) to 7.13 (55).
Thunder stormed to a solid victory against the East Fremantle reserves on Sunday, maintaining their lead throughout all four quarters. Back from state Duties Mitchell Edwards, Joel Rush & Reece Torrent impressed in the win.
Corey Tregenza continued his in-form streak kicking four goals, solidifying his position as the top scorer for all teams in the Reserves competition. Guy Barnes had 19 touches, Jacob Hewitt 16, Ty Anderson 15, Jonathon Ietto 15 and Taj Wyburd 15.
