Colts into PRELIM!

Friday, September 18, 2015 - 12:27 PM

After starting the season at 1-7 before the state game bye the 2015 season look all but over for the Peel Thunder Colts, however an impressive run of form and a large amount of work or players and coaches alike has lead to the opportunity of a Preliminary Final berth this weekend against reigning premiers, Swan Districts.

Following the loss at the hands of Swans in the Qualifying Final, the Thunder were able to quickly regroup and take on a competitive and spirited West Perth team in the sudden death Semi-Final at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Sunday. After conceding the opening goal of the game, the Thunder opened up the game with seven straight goals to lead the Falcons by 36 points at the first change. It was an inspired team performance which has been the trademark of the team in their recent wins. Whilst West Perth continued to fight their way back into the game, Peel continued to score in the second and went into the main break leading 12.3 to 5.4.

With the game nearly in the keeping the Thunder knew that they still had to close out the game as West Perth have been the comeback team of the season, pulling off some great escapes in recent weeks. With the margin out to 43-points at the final break the message was to control the ball, remain disciplined and finish the work to earn the Preliminary Final berth. The boys continued to fight out the game and run out winners 19.8.122 to 12.7.79 in what was a competitive and high scoring colts game.

After Claremont were able to defeat Swan Districts in the earlier game and advance straight to the Grand Final, the Thunder will have the opportunity to recreate history with victory on Sunday.

The Peel Thunder Colts will take on Swan Districts at HBF Arena (Joondalup) on Sunday with bounce down at 8.50am.

See you at the footy.
