The Peel Thunder Football Club commenced its 2016 Colts program, holding an induction and testing day on Sunday 22 November. Over 70 young players from the local and south-west area were in attendance and keen to impress their chances to represent the club in 2016. Following the program overview Strength and Conditioning coaches David Norton and Ashton Bell put the players to work immediately with a Beep Test. Some terrific results were recorded with a number of players preparing well for the day. Lachlan Mitchell and Alex Cohen eclipsed the Level 15 mark whilst a number of players recorded some personal performances. The players were then put through their paces with Kicking and Clean Hands testing before completing a series of speed tests to conclude the afternoon.

Adam Shine and Craig Otto have joined the coaching staff for 2016 with Shine taking on a role with the South West players, conducting weekly training sessions in Brunswick, whilst Otto will join the colts in a development coaching capacity combining his role as the 16s Development Coaching position. They join the returning team of coaches led by Beau Wardman, John Kennedy and Craig Milward.

“Our focus over the next four weeks will be on skill development and the fundamentals of the game, combining this with a challenging conditioning program. We have a really dedicated staff who have worked hard over the last 12-months to develop the talent in the Peel district and hopefully these players can continue to embrace the challenges ahead.” Coach Beau Wardman said.

After finishing in the finals for the first time since 2011 and bowing out in the preliminary final in 2015, the group will look to consolidate its position as one of the leading development programs in WA. Training will commence on Monday 23 November and run through until 22 December, training three times a week at various locations across the district, before the player will take a break over Christmas/New Year.
