Ebony Dowson Reaches Historic 100-Game Milestone.

This weekend marks a historic milestone not just for Peel Thunder, but for the entire WAFLW competition, as our Captain Ebony Dowson, or Chippy, becomes the first player in WAFLW history to reach 100 League games.

Ebony’s journey is one of passion, persistence, and a deep loyalty to the Peel Thunder Football Club. Having joined Peel back in 2013 during the WAWFL, she has been part of the club’s evolution into the WAFLW competition. In total, Ebony will be playing her 184th senior game across both the WAWFL and WAFLW competitions, an extraordinary achievement that places her among the most experienced and decorated women’s footballers in Western Australia.

Throughout her career, Ebony has been a consistent force in the backline, known for her resilience and leadership. She played a key role in Peel Thunder’s two premiership victories, and in 2022 her outstanding season was recognised with the Fenton Medal, awarded to the club’s WAFLW Best & Fairest.

Born and raised in Kalgoorlie, Ebony’s football journey began at a time when local pathways for women were almost non-existent. When she moved from Kalgoorlie, Peel Thunder became her one and only footy home.

Her commitment to the club runes deeper than game day. Now in her third consecutive year as club captain (2023-2025), Ebony’s impact stretches far beyond the field. She’s known for her infectious positivity, her unwavering dedication to her teammates, and her ability to lift those around her with a smile or word of encouragement.
As Ebony runs out for her 100th WAFLW game this weekend, we not only celebrate her milestone, but everything she has contributed to Peel Thunder and women’s football in WA.

Congratulations, Chippy. Thank you for everything you have done, and continue to do, for our club.
