Ready & Oldy til 27’

In a clear sign of our aligned vision, Peel Thunder Football Club is proud to announce our two key Senior program leaders in Adam Read (Senior Coach) and Brad Oldfield (Reserves Coach) have re-committed for Season’s 2026 and 2027!

Brad Oldfield will also step into a newly created role at Peel Thunder as our ‘Head of Coach Development’, extending his coaching mentorship from the Senior program to the Talent and Women’s coaches, as well as our Community Coach Academy Program.

Peel Thunder Football Club CEO, Paul Lekias expressed on behalf of the Club the enthusiasm in Adam and Brad re-committing; “It comes with no surprise that ‘Ready’ and ‘Oldy’ have re-committed, both are highly invested and driven to see Peel Thunder create future sustained success, they have and will continue to build a culture of genuine care, professionalism and high standards.”

Excitingly, this comes off the back of our recently announced Futures, Colts, Rogers & WAFLW Head Coach appointments, strong player retention numbers, and the announcements of previous players returning and new players joining Peel Thunder.”

Adam Read is highly respected not just within the Fremantle and Peel Thunder Football Clubs, but also the WA Football landscape more broadly for his genuine passion of coaching, his ability to drive a strong player-lead culture, provide clear communication and being unrelenting in his preparation for his players and fellow coaches.

In 2024 and in his first year as Senior Coach, Ready was the key leader in delivering our 3rd WAFL Premiership in what was one of our most consistent seasons. In 2025, Ready did a fantastic job in developing the younger Fremantle and Peel Thunder players, debuting close to 20 players with the league side falling short of finals by one ladder position. He has also seen three players drafted thus far in his coaching tenure, in Jacob Blight, Bo Allan and Michael Sellwood.

Speaking on his extension, Ready shared; “I’m incredibly excited to be continuing as Senior Coach of the Peel Thunder Football Club. We have a young and hungry playing list with enormous scope for growth, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep helping our players and staff develop both on and off the field. Our focus remains on building an environment that drives football improvement, personal development and sustained on-field success. I want to thank the Peel community for their unwavering support — they are the heartbeat of our club. I’m also extremely thankful to the Fremantle Football Club for their trust, guidance and support. The strength of the alignment between Fremantle and Peel continues to be outstanding, and I’m proud to be part of that relationship.”

2025 saw a great and well-deserved opportunity for Adam Read, being names the WA Men’s Head Coach, where he led from the front in the WAFL defeating the SAFNL for the first time since 2018. Alongside him in the opportunity was Brad Oldfield as his backline assistant coach.

Just like Adam Read, Brad Oldfield is a much loved and highly respected individual within Peel Thunder and our broader community club zone. Genuine care for his people, being a father-like figure and also providing clear communication are Brad’s strengths. Being a Peel Thunder Past Player, ‘Oldy’ brings a strong understanding of what it means for our players to wear the Peel jumper.

In Brad’s two years as Reserves head coach, we have seen the greatest player retention in recent years and improved win-loss results in each year. A true sign of his development philosophy, Brad has overseen a very healthy number of players debut at League level in the last two years, a number which would put Peel Thunder towards the top bracket for most players to make their League debut.

We’re now excited to give Oldy the opportunity to build on the foundation himself, Ready and the assistant coaches have created.

Upon re-committing, Brad spoke of the opportunity ahead; “I look forward to continue supporting our young men’s development in becoming League footballers whilst also striving for team success in 2026.”

As mentioned earlier in the article – In 2026 and 2027, Brad Oldfield’s involvement at Peel Thunder will be enhanced, utilising his vast coaching experiences and mentorship ability – Taking on the Head of Coach Development role, helping our coaches across the Talent and Women’s program with their development programs, specifically our Futures, Rogers, Colts and WAFLW head coaches. This role will also see Oldy take greater ownership with our Community Coach Academy.

Speaking on stepping into this role, Oldy said; “I am excited and grateful for the opportunity in this new role. Supporting our coaches in the alignment of our processes, systems and connections across the whole football department.”

Please join us in congratulating both Adam Read and Brad Oldfield with their extensions!
