WA Players Bound for Training Camp in Victoria

Friday, January 20, 2023 - 10:57 AM by Mark Readings

West Australian trio Georgie Cleaver, Jaime Henry and Kaitlyn Srhoj will be among a group of 30 players to participate in the 2023 AFLW Academy high-performance training camp in Victoria this weekend.

The players selected in the sixth intake of the AFLW Academy were announced in November, with the squad featuring many of the country’s most promising footballers.

All players selected in the AFLW Academy were aged 17 as of January 1 this year and will be eligible for the 2023 AFLW Draft, following the 2023 AFLW season.
The AFLW Academy program is designed to prepare talented young players for entry into elite football programs.

Players will participate in high performance and personal development programs throughout the 2023 season.

Program content will be delivered across three training camps and online modules.

This weekend’s camp will see players take part in a range of football and education sessions.

The camp will begin with a training session at The Hangar, the home of Essendon Football Club, from 9am (Perth time) on Friday, January 20.

The squad will then travel to Geelong Grammar, where players will engage in additional football training sessions, and participate in education sessions and team-bonding activities across Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22.

National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer, who hails from WA, has high hopes for the group this year.

“We are excited to have the AFLW Academy come together for their first camp of the 2023 program and look forward to working closely with this extremely promising group of players throughout the year.

The 2023 AFLW Academy comprises players from every state and territory in Australia and features a selection of the most talented young female footballers in the country.

The players involved in the AFLW Academy will take part in a specialised football program that will further develop elite training habits and enhance their skill set both on and off the field.

Players will have access to elite coaching and facilities and will gain a first-hand experience of the professionalism and standards required to make it at the highest levels of our game.

As well engaging in high performance and personal development sessions, players will also have the chance to connect with their peers by participating in team-bonding activities,” Lockyer said.

This weekend’s camp will be followed by two additional camps later in the year, with the squad set to reconvene in April and June.
