The Peel Thunder Football Club are proud to announce that 2018 and 19 Rogers Cup Premiership winning Coach Steve Markham will take the reigns as Head Coach of the WAFLW program in 2020.

After a long and extensive search, it seemed only fitting that the next Coach came from the very successful Rogers Cup side. After coaching for 3 Seasons going to 3 straight Grand Finals, successfully winning the past 2 Premierships, the much-loved Steve was the logical choice to step up and take over at Senior Level.

After a disappointing first season as part of the new WAFLW competition, Markham hopes that he can impart the knowledge and success he has had at youth level and translate that into success with the senior program.

“I feel honoured and thrilled to be announced as the Head Coach of the Women’s program” Markham said.

“There is so much talent at Peel and I am super excited to nurture the young talent coming through from the Rogers Cup and blend it with the experience we currently have at League Level.”

“Having been fortunate enough to gain experience as Rogers Cup coach over the past 4 years, the progression of the players and game style as well as the belief of the club as a whole is that we will play exciting competitive football.”

“The ultimate goal being to build a powerful side that will be strong and successful over a long period of time”

The Women’s Program begin their Pre-Season on December 3rd.

Applications for the now vacant Rogers Cup Senior Coach position are now being considered.
