WAFL RD 17 | Peel bounce back with a dominant win over the Eagles

Author: Peel Thunder FC

Peel returned to action with a 98-point victory at Lane Group Stadium over the Eagles.

Peel dominated inside 50s 59-27, allowing the hosts to boot 19 goals.

A strong start saw the hosts take a 36-point lead into the first break. Taberner’s back-to-back goals being the highlight in his return to football. While O’Driscoll guided a signature goal through from the pocket.

Despite the Eagles kicking the first goal of the second term, Peel’s dominance continued with 6 unanswered goals.

Peel captain Benjamin Hancock led the way in the first half with 20 disposals while Blair Bell looked dangerous forward, taking 7 marks, and booting 3 goals.

Hancock praised an all-round strong team performance while highlighting Bell’s game post-match.

“Sort of like men verse boys out there for him, he’s a really strong fella, you know he was just throwing blokes off him and marking everything.”

Domination in the ruck gave Peel first use to open the ground up and head inside forward 50 giving them a 85-19 lead at the main break.

Scoring dried up for both teams in the 3 rd quarter, with Peel holding the Eagles scoreless.

Nathan Wilson and Liam Riedy opened their accounts for the day with Taberner kicking his third of the afternoon.

Consistent pressure from Peel created turnovers and denied the Eagles a chance to link up play. Brady Grey and Will Brodie were standouts both with seven inside 50s.

A back-and-forth final term saw Peel finish the day with a strong four quarter effort gaining momentum into next week’s blockbuster against Claremont.

After the game new recruit, Ethan Stanley reflected on the win.

“The last couple weeks obviously has not been the result we wanted and it’s good to get a big win, to get the confidence back up as we have very strong competition for the rest of the year.”

Captain Benjamin Hancock enjoyed the days win and is looking forward to next week’s game against Claremont.

“We owe them one, they also rolled us in the final last year so it would be good to get a big win over them next week and really set ourselves for the best and highest position we can on the ladder.”

Captain Benjamin Hancock lead from the front with a game-high 33 disposals and 7 inside 50s. Blair Bell led the scoring with 4 goals looking dangerous throughout all 4 quarters. Brady Grey was impressive gathering 26 touches with the help of Riley Smith who dominated the ruck with 32 hit-outs.

Peel will host Claremont at Lane Group Stadium next Saturday and look to cement themselves a spot in the finals.
