Peel Thunder are one win away from securing third position on the WAFL ladder after beating the Perth Demons at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday.   The Thunder overcame a slow start against the Demons to snap a two-game losing streak winning by 21 points with the final score 11.10 (76) to 8.7 (55).

Peel’s Joshua McMahon said the Thunder expected the Demons to come out strong.   “We knew Perth was always going to be a tough game, we didn’t want to underestimate them, So we picked it up in the second quarter and carried it through,” he said.

Peel Thunder have earned a thrilling 13-point victory over East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval on Saturday to secure third position on the WAFL ladder.   The Thunder booted seven unanswered goals in the final term to overcome a 31-point deficit at three-quarter time, finishing 10.8 (68) to 8.7 (55).

In his debut game, James Kirby said he enjoyed his first win at league level.   “Yeah it was definitely something different, it was a step up from twos [reserves], so yeah it was good to get the first win,” he said.

After 2 disappointing loses that end our finals chances, the Peel development side used the bye to realign focuses and set some short term goals over the remaining 3 games. We saw the game against Perth as an opportunity to measure our progress over the back end of the season. The last time we met, Perth recorded a pretty comfortable victory, running away with the game in the last quarter. Perth were sitting in 3rd position on the ladder and building towards a finals campaign. Out of the side went Corey Morris, Luke Strnadica, Josh McMahon and Brett Milward who were all rewarded with some strong form with a promotion to the League side. It was especially pleasing to see Brett and Josh go up as they had to fight pretty hard to earn their spots and had both been building pretty strong cases over the past few weeks.

Peel Thunder lost their second game in a row with a 16-point loss to Swan Districts at Bassendean Oval on Saturday afternoon in stormy weather.  

Peel held a two-point lead heading into the final term before Swan Districts kicked four goals to one to set up a 11.6 (72) to 8.8 (56) victory.

Peel’s Calvin Thorne said it was disappointing his side dropped away in the last term.

The Peel Development team arrived at Steel Blue Oval keen to put up a much more competitive display than the last time the 2 sides met. The earlier clash saw Swans destroy the Thunder by 125 points in what was probably the low point of our season. Heading into the clash, both teams were on 6 wins and a game outside the 5. Peel were coming off a disappointing result against Subiaco, having lead by 4 goals at half time, before being overrun and losing by 9 points.

The Thunder lost the promoted Chris Wrigley and Calvin Thorne to League, while key position player, Matt Piggott was ruled out with hamstring tightness. Aaron Victor was also a late, late withdrawal in the warm up with Reece Dillon, Jackson Burkett, Jackson Capurso and Zac Beckman returning to the team.

It was with great pleasure that the Peel Thunder Football Club Ladies Committee, represented by Corrin Ditchburn,  were able to continue their support of Ronald McDonald House Perth by presenting, Ronald McDonald House Perth CEO Peter King a cheque for $9144.66.  

The presentation was made at last weekends home game at Bendigo Bank Stadium where McDonalds Mandurah Forum, Greenfields and Lakelands sponsored an open gate.  Giving patrons 'FREE ENTRY' for the day.

The Peel Colts moved back into second position on the WAFL colts ladder on Saturday with a 36 point win over Subiaco.

In slippery conditions early both sides were evenly matched kicking 2 goals a piece in the first quarter. A late Subiaco goal in the second quarter saw the Lions take a 6 point lead into the main break 5-5 35 to Peels 4-5 29.

The second half, as generally is always the case in colts footy, saw the conditions improve. It became a lot more conducive to running and carrying, and allowed for better ball handling which allowed the Peel boys to play to their strengths. The midfield dominated the 3rd term which saw the Thunder kick 7 goals to Subiacos 2 to take a 25 point lead into the final change.

Peel Thunder’s five-game win streak has come to an end after losing to the Subiaco Lions by 46 points at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday.  The Thunder were caught off guard by the Lions early game and had a slow start for a final score of 6.4 (40) to Subiaco’s 12.14 (86).

Rory O’Brien reached the record of most Peel Thunder games played at 132 games, equalled with Brandon Hill, finishing with 24 disposals and 11 tackles.

Peel’s Blair Bell said “O’Brien has a presence for the team that is invaluable.  The way he leads at the front and at training, he sets the standard, keeps putting in week in week out, he was a big part of our premiership last year.”

After back to back road trips the Thunder were back at home last weekend, hosting the Subiaco Lions, keen to continue their recent good form. Previously the teams had met twice with the Lions winning both, holding off a fast finishing Thunder in Round 4 by 2 points and then pulling away in the last to win by 34 points in Round 11.

Peel welcomed back Matt Piggott, Chris Wrigley and Corey Morris while Brad McGowan was returning to football after a long lay off through illness.

The game started exactly as you’d expect from 2 teams that are both very strong around the contest. Peel had a slight edge in the stoppages but Subiaco’s resolute defence stifled ball movement and forced the Thunder down the line. Some poor one on one defending and unnecessary free kicks meant the Lions took an 8 point advantage into quarter time.

In a frustrating performance, the Peel Thunder colts lost their 5th game of the year on Saturday against a tenacious East Perth side.

The colts were not without their chances, however could only manage 7.14 to East Perths 9.9 to go down by 7 points.

The game started well for the Thunder with Brynn Osborne kicking the first goal of the game for the second week in a row, followed by Alex Cohen converting a set shot from close range to go into the first break up 2.5 to 2.2.
